Baby Blocks

First of all, wowza, blogger wasn't kidding when they said they were getting a facelift!  I don't adapt well to change; I am so lost! haha

Back to the point of this post...

Before H was born I had tons of little sewing projects going on all the time, bedskirt, curtains, quilts, blankets, burp cloths, bibs, etc.  But in the almost two months since his birth, I haven't had time to do any sewing at all, and I was really starting to miss it!  If you follow me on Pintrest, you may have noticed the rash of quilts I've been 'pinning' lately.  While I've really been itching to start on another quilt, I know that realistically I don't have the time to finish one right now.  So, I thought I'd start with something small and settled on making H some little fabric blocks.

Y'all, it is amazing how many nap times it takes to complete even the simplest of projects!  I got the fabric for these blocks last Tuesday, cut out the blocks on Wednesday, and it took me until Monday night to get all 6 of them completed.  Pretty sure I could have knocked them out in a short afternoon a few months ago.

For the blocks I used this tutorial, and it was so, so easy to follow!  I've made lots of things off internet tutorials, and some of them are good, some just ok, and some incredibly frustrating, (:cough: bedskirt tutorial :cough:).  This one was great!  I highly recommend it!  The blocks really are easy to make, but they can be a little tedious what with all their little 4" seams and what not.  I'm sure it doesn't help that I was trying to rush before a certain someone woke up.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out.  It will be a while before Henry can actually play with them I know, and they're pretty large for him for now.  But, I did put some in front of him while he was doing tummy time yesterday and he stared at them pretty intently, that's about all I can ask for right now!  I think he's a fan of the bright colors!

Oh, and speaking of sewing, Raechel at Finding My Feet is doing a pretty spectacular blog series on Sewing 101 right now.  If you're interested in learning more about sewing you should definitely check it out!  My sewing abilities are pretty much limited to just sewing straight lines, so I've found it really interesting!

  1. So I think when you have more time on your hand you have to open an ETSY store. I would be your best customer! Everything you make is amazing!

  5. Hi Jennifer, I'm stopping by from Kelly's Korner! I'm here in the DFW area too. The blocks are super cute. Congrats on your son. I read your infertility posts. My husband and I are going on 2.5 years of trying, so believe me when I say HUGE congrats on getting through it!

  6. Hey there, stopping from Kelley's Korner. I'm in DFW also! I'm so thrilled ya'll were able to have a happy baby! We were told we'd never have kids and after 3 years of struggles, tears, and heartbreak we were blessed with a miracle. Then 2 more times after that! I'll be stopping back by because I LOVE the stuff you're making!

  7. Thanks for stopping by! Wanna know something funny? I pinned one of your soup recipes this winter, so I've stopped by your blog for the recipe repeatedly! Small blog world? Maybe.

LOVE the blocks, and congrats on your new baby! My second is about to turn one, so believe everybody when they tell you how fast it goes by (as annoying as it is to hear, oh, every time anyone comes up to squeeze his cute little cheeks).

I've added you to my Google Reader, so I'm sure I'll be back! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
