Easter Weekend

"Christ the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!"

"Christ the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss.  Alleluia!"

Easter has to be one of my favorite holidays.  I'm pretty sure I say that about every holiday, but Easter always seems so happy, I think it may be the color palette. ;)  We had a relatively uneventful Easter weekend mostly due to the fact that we have a now 6 week old baby, (how is that possible?!). Since we moved here we've spent Easter last year and the year before, with our good friends the Andrew & Jacquelyn, but this year they were out of town.   We seriously debated driving 'back home' for Easter, but in the end decided to have a low key Easter at home.

As Henry grows older I know that we will have a lot more exciting Easter weekends in our future full of big dinners, egg hunts, dyed eggs, deviled eggs, (my FAVORITE!), smocked outfits, bunnies, chocolate, and most importantly sharing with him the true significance of the holiday, the resurrection of our Savior and Lord.  But this year, it was nice to hang around the house in our pjs, have a delicious dinner of Julia Child's Rapee Morvandelle, (a gratin with ham, swiss cheese, onions, eggs, and potatoes-- soo good!), salad, & Peanut M&Ms; take a few family pictures in our front yard after a passing spring rain storm, and just enjoy life as a family of three.

WAY overexposed picture, but he was getting fussy, so this is as good as it gets. ;)

We did get Henry his first Easter basket though.  It took every ounce of will power I had to not get him a monogrammed Easter basket from Pottery Barn Kids, (I'm such a sucker for anything monogramed), but I knew that he would probably sleep most of the day away and if we waited until next year to get it we would get more use out of it by saving a year of it's lifetime in storage.

We went with a cheap blue and green basket from Target, and in it the Easter bunny left him a Berenstein Bears book, (a fav of both me and the husband), a black and white board book, two wooden car toys, and a few empty eggs to make it more festive.  I think it was pretty much perfect.  I'm not so much a fan of over the top Easter baskets filled with toys, mostly because that's not what I grew up with. I think it's so much more important to make Easter about Jesus than gifts, but that's just a personal preference.  There were at least a few times when I was little that we got flowers to plant outside in our Easter baskets, and I've always thought that was really neat!  What better symbol of spring and the new life that we all receive in Christ than flowers?

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold all things have become new." - 2 Corinthians 5:17

LOVE them!

All in all we had a great holiday weekend, but we're super excited about making Easter fun for Henry next year! :)

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend full of God's glory and grace!

"Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.
But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.
Then as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead?  He is not here, but is risen!  Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.'"
-Luke 24:1-7
