The Verdict... Or Not?

Before Henry was born, one of our wonderings was what he would look like, (I even posted about it here).  Or, more precisely, WHO he would look more like, since husband and I look so different.

When he was born we were sure he looked like my husband, (as you can see in the above picture taken when Henry was just a few weeks old).  But as the months have gone on, he's changed and there are definitely traits from me in there as well.

We have an outfit that husband wore when he was 5 months old, and today I decided to put Henry in it, so we could see exactly how similar, (or different), they look at the same age.

And then just for fun, I dug out a picture of me when I was around 6 1/2 months old, (it's the closest I could find), to compare as well.

Our conclusion is that he's really just a pretty good mix of the two.  Sometimes it seems he favors one of us over the other, but he definitely has traits of us both.  He for sure has husband's big hands and feet, hairline, and at every single doctors appointment we've had Henry has measured and weighed almost the exact same as husband did at the same age, it's almost eery how close it is!  It's looking like he's going to have dark eyes like me, (maybe not quite as dark, but we'll see!), and he definitely has my cheeks and chin.  We are pretty surprised at how round his little head is though!  I always thought my face was so round, but it's nothing compared to his cute face.

Definitely should have ironed that collar down!!!

We've also decided that he's way cuter than either of us ever was! haha  Of course the mid 80's Sears portrait studios certainly weren't doing us any favors! ;)

What do you think?  Is he a pretty good mix of the two, or do you see a little more of one of us?

Firsts

We have been so incredibly busy lately!  I feel like I'm always either rushed, or feeling like I have forgotten to do something, (most often I have! haha).  For the next few months there won't be any slowing down either, so I guess we might as well get used to the chaos that is our lives right now! ;)

This weekend we were back in our hometown for my sister-in-law's wedding.  It was gorgeous, and a post on it should be coming soon!  The entire 5 days we were in town we were rushing from place to place, appointment to appointment, and we didn't end up seeing half the people we had planned on seeing.  It seems like it always works out like that though!

It ended up being quite an eventful weekend in Henry's little life though, full of lots of cute baby firsts!

1.  Henry spent lots of time at my parents' house while husband and I were out being busy.  Except for one trip to Target when he was a week old, and my trip to the ER last month, we've never left him with anyone.  I think that kind of makes me sound overprotective and paranoid, and while that may be partially true, it's mainly due to the fact that we live so far from our families and Henry's still nursing.  I think it was good for him to have some time away from us for a change, and he got to spend lots of time having fun with his Marmee and Grandpa.  I think they may have enjoyed it too. ;)

2.  He ate avocado for the first time!

My mom made this delicious salad for dinner Monday night!

It was soo good and so pretty I couldn't decide between these two pictures, so I'm putting in both! ha!

The salad had romaine lettuce, black beans, corn, strawberries, avocado, red onion, feta, chicken, and shrimp with a cilantro lime vinaigrette!  It was amazing.  While I was helping cut up veggies, I let Henry have a little sliver of avocado, and he just went to town on it!  Avocado is delicious but messy! ;)

3.  Henry had his first bath in a kitchen sink!

When we're home we still use Henry's whale tub inside our big garden tub in the bathroom.  But this trip we didn't have room for anything extra, (our car was PACKED!), so the whale tub had to stay at home.  The first few nights we were there, husband bathed him in the bathtub with just a little water in it, but baby boy is super wriggly lately, and it was an interesting experience to say the least!  The last night we decided that since he's really starting to sit up pretty well, we would try the kitchen sink.  It worked much better!

As long as he has a rubber ducky, he's good to go!  We think he enjoyed the sink bath though! ;)

4.  He had banana for the first time!

This morning for breakfast my mom once again broke out the big guns at breakfast and made crepes!  My mom and husband had peanut butter filling, bananas, and home made chocolate sauce on theirs,

and I had strawberries in mine with a little chocolate sauce on top:

Henry got a piece of banana as a spoil of war, and after one taste of it, he really dove right in!

I was really surprised by how much of the banana he actually ate!

5.  I'm not sure if this actually counts, but starting this weekend Henry's babbles are finally starting to sound like something, most notably mamamamama!  ;)  Several times this weekend when he got upset he started rattling off a long string of mamamamamama sounds, but as soon as I went over to him he would stop and get a big smile on his face!  I think that counts as saying Mama, what do you think? ;)

Husband and I also swear he said milk once too.  Every time I feed him I say "milk" several times right before he starts eating.  First thing Monday morning right after I said "milk", he made a noise that sounded like "muck".  Could be purely coincidental, but there was a clear "m" sound at the beginning and "k" sound at the end.  I probably wouldn't have believed my ears, but husband heard him too, and we both got way too excited as only parents can.  ;)  It kind of reminded me of the episode of Friends where Rachel gets excited because Emma says gleeba. haha

6.  This weekend was also the first time we've travelled with both "children".  We used to travel with Miss Kitty all the time, but the past few years we've only been able to take short trips, so she usually stays home.  We didn't want her to be home alone for 5 days, so we took her with us this time, and were pleasantly surprised at how well she did.  Truth be told, I think she wanted to stay at my parents house! ha!  Of course, my brother did leave his pet mouse there:

and their house has lots of windows with much better views than ours', and lots of pretty birds to look at. ;)

Hooray for firsts and lovely, (albeit exhaustingly busy), weekends!

Wedding Bells

My sister-in-law Anna is getting married to Steven in a few days!  I realized last week that I never posted any pictures of their couples shower we went to in the beginning of June.  These pictures aren't that great because the lighting was kind of funky in the evening, and I didn't have much time to take pictures because Henry hadn't napped and was up past his bedtime, and he was not happy about it!

Anna with her future sister-in-law Faith

Faith painted them this cute painting for their home!

Us with Henry is our Beco Gemini baby carrier, where he spent the entire night!

Congrats to Steven and Anna!!

6th Generation

My Grandma is in the process of moving in with my parents, and as part of that, they recently moved an old bed from Grandma's house into their guest bedroom, (aka my old room).

It's a big, tall, four poster bed that I used to love to sleep in when I went to my Grandma's when I was little.  I had to do a running jump to get up into it until I was about 13. haha!

I snapped some pictures of Henry sitting/playing in the old bed this weekend, and me, my mom, and Grandma did the math and decided Henry is at least the 6th generation, (but possibly the 7th generation), of my family to sleep in the bed.

I told Henry the old bed first belonged to his momma's momma's momma's momma's momma.  Did you catch all that? ;)

Not exactly sure what he's doing, but this picture cracks me up! haha

Funnily enough my great-great-grandparents, (who would be 6 generations back from Henry), were named Major Henry and Lucy, and Lucy was one of our top name contenders had Henry been a girl.

I love furniture, art, clothes, whatever with a story!  Do you have anything in your family that's been around longer than anyone can remember?

Shoes!

"You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose."

"So be sure when you step,
Step with great care and great tact.

And remember that life's A Great Balancing Act.
And will you succeed?

Yes!  You will indeed!
(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed!)

Kid, you'll move mountains."

Henry has had these shoes for a while, and has worn them a couple of times, but they finally really fit well.  I was taking these pictures of him playing with his feet the other day and these lines from "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" started running through my head.  ;)

Too Fast

Every mom will tell you that babies grow up too fast, but there really is no way to truly understand that until you have your own.  I was taking some pictures of Henry while husband was giving him his bath last night, and he just looked so much older to me.  He is growing so fast and there's not a thing I can do about it.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love that he's healthy and happy, growing like a weed and practically changing daily in front of our eyes.  Some days I'm just a little dumbfounded at how fast time is moving these days.  I swear other people's kids always took longer to grow! ha! ;)

See for yourself:

*Just a disclaimer, with the exception of the first picture, I took all of these photos while my husband was giving Henry a bath.  If you see any hairy legs/arms/hands in these pictures they belong to husband, not to your's truly.  ;)  Oh, and yes, I do bathe Henry as well, we just don't seem to have any photos of it! ha!*

Holding his rubber ducky and using the bill as a teether.
Yes, he has a pink duck.  It was a gift from his Marmee, (my mom), before we knew he was a boy.  It was part of a 3-pack, he also has a yellow and green, but they're in the living room.  He loves them all equally. ;)

Sweet Boy

These next two were the pictures that brought about this whole post.  H has been teething like a wild man this week, (he gets it honestly, his Daddy and I both got teeth early), and was chewing on his fingers all during his bath last night.  It reminded me of a picture I had taken back in May, but I couldn't believe the difference when I compared the two.

Like I said.  Too fast.

WAY too fast.
