Baby's First Zoo Trip

I know I've been a little MIA the past few days.  I really had every intention of posting one part of my cloth diaper series a day until it was finished, but life all the sudden got a little busier than normal.  Last weekend we actually took a little trip out of town for the first time since we moved!  Everything had been so hectic for so long while we were moving, it was nice to kind of have some down time in town for a few months.  But lately we've been itching to go on a little trip.  When an opportunity presented itself, we took full advantage!

We went to my brother's house for the weekend to celebrate my niece's 1st birthday!  She's only 5 weeks older than Henry, so I can't believe it's time to start birthday celebrations!  Where did the last year go??  Because my brother's family lives a few hours away from us, we decided to take a little bit of a detour and stop at a zoo on the way!  We left Saturday morning when Henry was ready for his morning nap, drove a couple hours, stopped at the zoo for a few hours, left when it was time for Henry's afternoon nap, and he was still asleep when we arrived at my brother's house that evening.  Perfect trip!

A zoo trip was on our list of goals for 2013, but we were honestly thinking we'd get to scratch it off this summer, not halfway through January!  But we're so glad we did!  Henry LOVED the zoo!  He had a blast seeing so many of the animals up close and it was such a gorgeous day that we loved getting a chance to walk around for a while instead of spending the whole morning driving straight through.

Here are a few of our favorite pictures from Henry's first trip to the zoo:

Dressed for the zoo!  Frog hat and zoo animal shirt!

LOVE pink flamingos, what a gorgeous color!

I think it's safe to say Henry has my eyes. ;)

SO, SO excited to see the black bears that were right on the other side of the glass!!  He was squealing and kicking his feet!  We got a kick out of the fact that the bears were his favorite animals, because he call him Bear all the time.

Also exciting to a 10 month old, big tortoises that were so close we could have touched them!

This white tiger cracked me up!  His name was Willie King.

Love this picture.  Love them.

One more attempt at a family photo.

My little bear and the pink flamingos.  My two favorite things at the zoo. :)

Hooray for zoo trips!  We were a little nervous about how the whole trip would go down, but it seriously could not have gone better!  I'm very relieved, because now we can plan a few more day/weekend trips without trepidation.  We have a big list of places we want to take Henry.

After our zoo trip we stopped to see one of my dear sweet friends, (and college roommate), and have dinner with her family.  Her daughter is absolutely adorable, and I didn't even get a picture!  I hate that!

So that was our Saturday!  Sunday was all about Addi's 1st birthday, so I'll have to do a separate post on that soon!  Because we were out of town all weekend, I feel like we're playing catch up this week.  We usually do all our laundry and grocery shopping on the weekends, so it's a little hectic trying to get that all done during the week, hence the lack of posting. ;)

Hope you all had lovely weekends as well!  Did anyone do anything super fun?

Jennifer

  1. I love all the zoo photos! Arden (and now Aurelia) love the zoo so much we've had a membership for 2+ years. The weather is in the 50s here this week, so we have a trip planned on Friday...maybe we'll get to ride the train this time! This past weekend we had a little birthday party for Arden. It was his best birthday yet--the first we invited like 40+ people and were amazed that they all came (it was way way too big and crazy), and the second birthday I was in the hospital for my appendectomy. Glad to find a balance between EVERYONE and no one.

    1. I really wish we had a zoo close enough to have a zoo membership! So much more fun than just taking walks around the neighborhood!! Forty people for a party is a lot! Wow! I don't think we've ever done a party with more than 20-25 and that seemed really big! I didn't realize you were actually in the hospital for his 2nd birthday. :(
