I realized the other day that I hadn't shared pictures of our bedroom and Henry's room since three weeks after we closed on the house. And frankly this picture:
wasn't exactly a clear representation of what the room looks like.
Backing up a little to refresh your memory, this is what we started with:
Nothing wrong with it at all, really. Especially considering some of the other paint colors in the house. It was the one room I told my husband I would be fine with leaving the paint as is.
And yet, somehow it ended up being the second room we painted. Riddle me that?
I really was ok with the paint color, (which I'm about 99% sure was Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter), but when I started testing paint samples to paint Henry's room,
I fell in love with the sample of Benjamin Moore's Rockport Gray. I knew it was darker than I wanted to go in his room, but it was all over when I painted a little swatch of the sample on the wall in our room. I knew it would be such a great color for the master bedroom! I had found a great quilt with a gray pattern on clearance, and the grays were a perfect match!
we decided it was actually a great time to go ahead and paint.
Next thing we knew I was up on a ladder taping and cutting in the paint around the trim and windows:
and husband was doing the heavy duty work:
I'm so glad we did! We really love this paint color!
It's soothing, dark, and moody at night, but light enough during the day that it's not depressing. It looks great with all our dark wood furniture, and curtains and accessories we already had. So far, we haven't bought anything for the master bedroom but new blinds.
So here is what it all looks like today:
This dresser is to the left of the door when you walk in the room. I put the sunburst mirror that was in the breakfast/dining area in our last house above the dresser and I really like it there! We bought that mirror from Pier 1 the first Christmas we were married, and I still love it!
All my candlesticks are empty! Somewhere in all our packed boxes is a bunch of candles!!
There were these weird shelf things above the windows when we bought the house. We knew we were going to take them out, but one of them basically fell off the wall the 2nd day we owned the house! Turns out they were just nailed into the walls with finishing nails! They were heavy things too!! It seems like something dangerous that could fall on you while you were sleeping! The blinds in the room were also in bad shape, so we replaced them with bamboo shades that were on clearance at Lowe's.
These three black and white pictures are from our wedding. The first is our hands on my bouquet, the second is just our wedding bands, and the third is my wedding dress going over my head.
They're 11x14 photos in 16x20 frames from Aaron Brother's. We have room on the wall for one more picture, but we'll have to wait until we make a Dallas trip to pick up another frame first.
Here's a shot from the other side of the room:
The above picture is taken from this chair:
In the corner. We bought the chair on closeout at Weir's furniture in Dallas and it was originally in Henry's nursery at our old house. We have a recliner in his room now, so this chair moved to our room. The gray throw on the back is Target clearance, (noticing a theme here?).
Eventually I would like to get new sheets for our bed, (I love white bedding, but it has to be replaced every couple of years to keep it looking fresh), and some throw pillows. But y'all have seen our to-do list for this house. It's crazy long. If I waited to show you pictures of this room until we had throw pillows on the bed it might not ever happen!
Here's a look at our progress so far:
That's where we are on our master bedroom! It might not be magazine ready, (ha!), but we love it, and that's what really matters. Plus, it is glorious to have a room that is finished to wind down in at the end of the day when there are still rooms of our house that are complete chaos!
