Shut the Front Door

Lately I have been LOVING brightly colored front doors.  I used to think that a black front door on a red brick house was just about as close to perfection as you could get in a front door.  But, now I have that and every time I see someone pin a bright door on pintrest, my little heart just skips a beat.

I mean how can it not looking at these beauties?

LOVE the orange!

If I was a single gal, you'd better believe I would do one of these:

This one is my favorite!

How fun would it be to give directions to your house?  "Just look for the house with the magenta front door."

I'm trying to convince husband to let me paint the door at some point in the future.  I'm thinking aqua/turquoise, green, or yellow instead of pink, since there are boys that live here.  I've kind of got my hands full right now working on the living room again, (and I still haven't put away all the Christmas decorations, they're down, but in a pile in the living room, ugh!), but I'm always dreaming ahead towards another project.

I am stumped on one detail though.  Our front door has sidelights, do you paint them the same bright color, like this:

Or leave them white, like these?

It's a dilemma that's far, far down the road.  You know, when we've finished painting every possible surface inside the house. ha!  But, I like to think these things out and have a plan, it's just my OCD nature. ;)

What color is your front door?  Are you drawn to the bright colors or do you prefer to stick with the traditional?  If you had a chance, and no HOA or anyone else to answer to, what would be your dream front door color?

Jennifer

P.S. I realized earlier that it was only Tuesday, and had a little bit of a moment.  All these holiday weeks in a row have gotten me spoiled!  Going back to a 5-day work week, (for husband), is not fun!

  1. ohh I love the white sidelights with the colored door...really makes the door color pop! I'd probably have to do white with a teal on my dream house! :)

    1. I'd love to do teal too! I think it would look pretty with our red brick house!

  2. To me, painting the sidelights white looks more fancy, whereas painting them the same color is fun and eclectic. So it would depend on what style you were going for.

Our front door is red. It fits well with our other colors. I have however, painting the INsides of our doors different colors. Since that's what I mostly see I wanted them to be fun and different. The inside of the front door is a deep purple (which even my husband agreed looks nice. And the inside of our back door is teal. I LOVE having the insides painted.

I say screw all your current projects and start a new one ;-)

    1. I think you're right-painting the sidelights white vs color changes the whole feel! I'm in the process of painting all the doors IN the house black, which is probably what brought all this on in the first place. It doesn't sound as fun as your colored interior doors though! Maybe I can convince my husband to let me paint the laundry room door a fun color, I'm still trying to sway him into thinking that the laundry room cabinets would look great aqua!

Oh, and you're an enabler!! haha! I'm already scatter-brained and not great at finishing projects as it is! ;)

  3. All of those are gorgeous! I even love the orange and yellow ;-) I noticed you didn't have a photo of a red one though, and that's where'd Id start in my door-color-choosing. Our (new) front door is white, and despite spending the last 3 years trying to convince Matt to let me paint it, it is still white (which I guess is better for showings anyway?). My vote is to leave the side windows white and just paint the door, I love how it just pops! The only holiday stuff I haven't put away are our xmas cards (which are hanging on the stair railing, I just love them!) and a tomato cage outside covered in lights.

    1. You're right about not including red! I think there's a few reasons, 1)I'm just not a red person, 2)our brick is red, so a red door is pretty much out, and 3)there are a lot of red doors in our neighborhood, so it didn't seem as "out there" as some of the other doors. I honestly didn't mean to leave it out it though! ;) We still have a tomato cage with lights outside, a pile of boxes in the living room, and I refuse to take down all the Christmas cards. ha!

  4. I have never really thought about a different color for the front door, but I am LOVING that dark blue front door! And I would leave the sides white, let the door stand out and make it's statement!!
Now you've given me something to ponder on... I want that dark blue door!

    1. The dark blue is one of my favorites too! I'm afraid it wouldn't work with our house though. :-/
