That's right.  Even though we're up to our eyeballs in a bathroom renovation...

**Sidebar:  I almost took a picture to show what the bathroom looks like right now but I still want us to be friends, and the best description of it's current state is tornado aftermath.  My Daddy and husband did some rewiring this weekend so we have wires coming out of the walls, (they're safely capped off, don't worry), a light fixture on the counter, sheetrock dust everywhere, cabinets that still don't have the doors reattached, navy blue paint splatters everywhere...  I could go on and on.  It's a mess.  A mess that we're hoping to finish up soon, but a mess none the less.  I can't wait to have it as a functioning bathroom again.  I'm tired of keeping the door shut constantly to keep Henry out, and tired of not being able to have people over because the only functioning bathroom is the master bath.**

...we went ahead and bought more cabinets for when we eventually get to building the built-in bookcases in the dining room to office conversion.  Hopefully at some point we'll have something more like this:

but with cabinets on the bottom

All along the wall on the left side of this picture of the dining room/office:

We know that the built-ins are a little down the to-do list, (priorities: bathroom then sunroom), but it was one of those things where the stars sales aligned and we had to just go for it.

We cashed in some credit card rewards points to get the $200 Home Depot gift card a few months ago, and had it set aside just for this purpose.  We almost bought the cabinets after Christmas, but we missed the sale and 10% off coupon lining up by one day!  We knew we had a limited window, so this time we just went for it!  We will need one more cabinet when we actually start on this project, but this was not a budgeted expense, so we tried to get by with spending as little money as possible yesterday.  Hopefully we'll be able to get the 4th cabinet during another 20% off sale.  We've got some time.

We lined the three cabinets up in the dining room/office/current playroom, (it's all very confusing!), last night and we're already in love.  I can't wait until they're all installed and useable!

We lost a ton of storage space between our old house's kitchen:

and pantry:

::sigh::

and the kitchen in this house:

And we sold our IKEA Billy bookcases:

when we moved, so all our books and a lot of kitchen stuff is still packed away in boxes.  I know it sounds super materialistic, but I miss our stuff!  Especially the books.  These four cabinets and the bookcases we plan to eventually build above them, will add SO much storage space to this house!

But that's all down the road.  In the meantime, we've got a bathroom to focus on!

  1. I don't know if you read her blog, but check out thriftydecorchick.com. She did the same thing as your wanting to do last year. She bought in stock cabinets and built bookcases over the top. They look awesome!

    1. Yes! I found her's on pintrest a while back! They're almost exactly what I've had in mind for months now, so it was great to see someone build what I was planning in my head to prove that I'm not completely crazy! ha! Our's will be very similar, just a few things will be different. :)
